What Kosher and Halal Certification Require

Every ingredient in a Kosher or Halal certified formula gets traced back to where it actually came from, verified by an outside body, and checked again on the production floor, not approved once and left alone.

CPC holds both Kosher (Kosher Check) and Halal (Halal Inspection Canada) certification, and each one verifies something different about how a facility runs.

What Kosher Certification Actually Verifies

Kosher certification checks the ingredients and the production process together, not one or the other. Every component of a formula, active ingredients, solvents, excipients, diluents, has to be verified against kosher standards. Fish oil has to come from kosher species. Gelatin has to come from cows slaughtered according to kosher law, not from any other source. Dairy ingredients need their own sourcing verification too.

On the facility side, equipment used for kosher production either has to be dedicated to kosher runs or go through a full kosherization process between batches, a genuine cleaning and purging procedure using hot water and real time, not a quick wipe-down. Oversight continues after certification is granted: unannounced inspections, on-site supervision during production runs, and sample testing at multiple stages, not a one-time check at the start.

What Halal Certification Actually Verifies

Halal Inspection Canada runs a comparable process built around a different framework. Certification starts with a review of vendor sourcing, where every ingredient actually comes from, followed by facility inspection, and a final assessment before approval is granted. Religious experts evaluate ingredient sourcing against Islamic jurisprudence requirements specifically, not a general checklist.

What HIC certification verifies extends across the whole facility's operations, not one product in isolation: sourcing practices, ingredient composition, preparation methods, and facility management all fall under it. And like Kosher certification, it doesn't stop once the seal is granted. Regular inspections continue for as long as certification holds.

Why Facility-Level Certification Matters

Neither of these certifications is a claim about a single SKU. They're a claim about how a facility operates, every day, across everything it makes under that certification. That's a meaningfully higher bar than certifying one product once.

For a brand, manufacturing at a facility that already holds both means their own customers with Kosher or Halal dietary requirements aren't taking anyone's word for it. The sourcing discipline, the equipment protocols, and the ongoing oversight are already built into how the batch gets made, not bolted on for one order.
